The truth is something that everybody wants but nobody really wants to hear. Whatever your situation in life, eventually you have to realize your truth and live it. That's exactly what Kensie has to do with her own life after struggling with her daddy issues sends her down a rabbit hole of bad choices and she has to change her life. After waking up next to a guy and not remembering what happened the night before she realizes she needs a change and goes on a celibacy kick. Focusing on school and what she wants to do with her life seems relatively easy until she meets August and everything changes. Kensie is faced with a choice to either let go of her issues and be happy or keep them bottled up and be miserable.

I can't really say that Kensie had a tough life growing up because for a time her parents were happily married and she had a once fruitful relationship with her dad. I wanted to read this because like Kensie I too have some residual daddy issues and I thought I would connect with her story. Although my issues are a little different there were some similarities I found relatable to me. Like the fact that once Kensie father left the picture he took up with his new wife and spent more time with her kids leaving Kensie out in the cold so to speak. also like Kensie I too chose to drown my sorrows in casual hookups and alcohol once upon a time so I got why she was driven to that extreme. Chasing love in all the wrong places is my M.O. it seems. Kensie was pretty self sufficient with a good head on her shoulders so I respected her a lot. She knew what needed to change in her life and she stayed focused on her goal. One of the things I admired about her character was her ability to bounce back after her father disappointed her and the constructive way she handle herself after. With these kinds of daddy issues I worried that she wouldn't be able to give August a fair chance but she showed a lot of maturity about it.

August was one of those amazingly sweet guys who values women and treats them as such. The kind of guy a girl like Kensie needed to sooth the ache of her missing father and repair her view on men in general. It's not easy being with Kensie but his patience and willingness to be there for her was an admirable character trait in him that I loved seeing. The one thing these two have in common is daddy issues except that August's are of a different variety. The story surrounding him is a little mysterious and I would have liked more of his perspective but I understood the author's reasons for keeping him hidden for a time. He's carrying the burden of grief and loss that almost bites him in the ass (typical man child lol) with Kensie when his secrets come to light. August was the kind of guy who would stand up for his lady love going toe to toe with Kensie's father over his treatment of her. I love the way that little scenario played out. Kensie's dad was a clueless peckerwood but August handled him the way I wished Kensie could have. These two made a great pair and complimented each other's weakness.

Truth In Wildflowers wasn't very dramatically intense and had very mild angst. Overall the story didn't have a very deep conflict because the two main character seemed to work through their issues pretty painlessly and that's always something I enjoy about my stories. Sometimes too much drama can drown the story unnecessarily. That wasn't the case with Wildflowers, it was just a sweet story with an adorable couple who had a group of friends supporting them in their various stages of healing. Kensie's friends were pretty funny, especially Lennon. The side story about August's sister and his best friend Wes intrigued me a little bit more than Kensie and August's story did but sometimes that happens with me. I didn't connect fully with this story but I did enjoy the romance for what it was. Sweet and simple. I'd like to know what happens between Capri and Wes so hopefully there will be a followup story about them. Like I said, if you're one of those people who thrives on excessive drama then you might not enjoy this articular story but if you need a romance that makes you happy and won't turn you off love completely then give Wildflowers a try.
