Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this. Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure as hell never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened. One thing is for certain, being married to rock and roll’s favourite son is sure to be a wild ride.

My Take:
I think this book has the potential to be the sleeper hit of the year. A rock star with a heart of gold and an innocent young woman with no real life experience, LICK was a fantastic story about throwing caution to the wind sometimes and listening to your heart.

I have seen this book floating around and heard such good things and I decided to buy it. From the cover you would expect a dark and mysterious story about a rock star. While it is about a rocker the overall story is about what happens after a drunken night in Vegas happens. Evelyn has just turned 21 and when she wakes up with a huge diamond on her finger and a strange, yet HOT man in her hotel room she pukes. Everywhere. David Ferris is her betrothed and explains that they are indeed married and fills in some of the details but not all. He gets upset when she can't remember and assures him they can get divorced ASAP which sends him off in a fit of anger leaving Evelyn to head home alone to explain things to her family. What she doesn't expect is a compete melee at the airport further turning her life upside down when she finally realizes she married a rock star. Together Evelyn and David have to navigate a drunken mistake in the public eye, figure out how to move forward and how to deal with feelings neither one expected to have.

Evelyn was such a sweet and unsuspecting character and watching her try to find her way through this crazy situation was a little suspenseful. She thinks she has nothing to offer David and even though she's attracted to him she feels out of his league, especially when she steps into his chaotic world. She's naive when it comes to sex and only went to Vegas to gain more experience in that area but never made it that far before passing out. I loved that she had integrity and didn't take shit from anyone especially Davids lawyers when they went after her thinking she was another gold digger. I was really pleased seeing her be willing to work things out with David and actually try to make the marriage work between them. The fact that she didn't know who he was or even liked the kind of music he played was hilarious to me. She was the perfect match for him and I loved these two together. Being with David turns out not to be easy like she thinks it will be, especially when his past threatens her future. Dealing with an ex is never easy but dealing with THE ex, the one that caused the pain, proved to be almost detrimental to her relationship with David but she handled herself so well.

David Ferris in my mouth. I loved this guy! He was sexy, intense and behind all the dark brooding rock he had a huge...heart. Seriously, I fell in love with him from minute one. I didn't even need to get to know his character, it was instant. Aside from the instant attraction though David becomes this enigma. He doesn't say much in the beginning but the more you see of him the more you learn what makes him tick. He's had some issues with love in the past and has been known to brush off serious entanglements. For him to take this big of a step with someone he just met was seen as a huge deal between his band mates and close friends. I absolutely loved watching him try to win Evelyn over. For the last few years he has been struggling with writing his music and had hit a creative wall until he met her. I love that she was his muse, it was incredibly romantic and the songs he wrote were really good. I loved seeing him loosen up once he stopped letting his past dictate his future. He was playful and fun and he had moments of Delicious sex appeal. The best part was seeing him open up to Evelyn and share a piece of himself he's kept hidden. Even though he had been hurt he chose to put himself out there to prove just how much he cared for her and the things he did to prove himself to Evelyn just liquefied my heart.

The supporting characters add a wonderful backdrop to the story. Between Evelyn's best friend Lauren, her brother Sam and David's band members, namely Malcolm (Mal) there was never a dull moment. I loved Lauren as Evelyn's best friend. She was feisty and tough and embodied what Evelyn needed when she didn't have anyone else to confide in. Her brother Sam was fiercely protective and stood up for her and stood behind her decision when their parents showed distaste for it. But the main supporting character I fell for was Malcolm, Mal for short. Being the band's drummer, Mal was hilarious, flirty and fun. He was one of the first people in the band to stick by Evelyn and root for things between her and David to work out. He added depth to the story that was already full and just made it that much better. I really hope his book is next because he was one of my favorite characters aside from David.

The only thing I would have loved is for dual POV's in the story. It's not that I didn't enjoy Evelyn's perspective, I did, I just wanted to be all up inside David Ferris' head! I already loved him but being able to see things from his side would have been the cherry on top of this delicious story. David and Evelyn were an amazing couple to read about and I loved them. They fought through all the odds of living in the public eye and the way things wrapped up pleased me beyond words and left me all squishy and happy. This was a fun upbeat rocker story with hot moments and a little bit of angst. There was never a time where I felt like things wouldn't work out for this couple. I highly recommend this if you love rocker stories that are a little less dramatic and a lot more romantic and fun.

Quotes:

I wasn’t even certain I knew how to make fuck-me eyes. But I definitely hadn’t been making them at that tool downstairs. No wonder so many marriages ended in divorce. Marriage sucked and husbands were the worst. My shoulders were caving in on me. I didn’t think I’d ever felt so small. Loc. 529

“Face it, child bride. You got married in Vegas by an Elvis impersonator to one of rock ’n’ roll’s favorite sons. It was always bound to cause a shit storm." Loc. 667

What a glorious thing giving head was. His hand tightened in my hair, pulling some, and I loved it. All of it. Anything with the ability to reduce my world-weary husband to a stammering mess while giving him such pleasure deserved a serious time investment. His hips shifted restlessly and his cock jerked against my tongue, filling my mouth with that salty, bitter taste faster than I could swallow. Loc. 2153
