Bidding on Brooks Review

Title: Bidding on Brooks
Author: Katy Regnery
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: May 11, 2015

Bidding on Brooks is the first of four books about the Philadelphia-based, wildly-handsome Winslow brothers who are all on the look-out for love.

(Except Preston. He's been down that road before and still has the scars to prove it. And maybe Cameron, because he's super hot, but too hot-headed to be decent boyfriend material...)

Railroaded into a bachelor auction by his sister, Jessica, Brooks Winslow asks his friend, Skye Sorenson, to bid on him to avoid the possibility of any romantic entanglements. Fiercely competitive and protective of those he cares for, Brooks was profoundly affected by the loss of his father at an early age. A witness to his mother’s terrible loneliness and his siblings’ grief, the ex-Olympian has never allowed himself to fall in love.

Skye Sorenson, the plucky mechanic at Sorenson Marina, where Brooks moors his three sailboats, is a credible sailor in her own right…and has quietly lusted after Brooks for years. But her longstanding friendship with Brooks has always made romance seem impossible.

When Skye agrees to bid on Brooks, the two cast off for a weeklong ocean adventure on Brooks’ sailboat, The Zephyr, where the last thing Skye expects to lose is her heart.

Return to the world created in the English Brothers books with this fresh foursome of scorching hot Winslow Brothers!
Globug's Review

Last year, my list of favorite reads in 2014 included The English Brothers series by Katy Regnery. Now she brings us a new series about their best friends, The Winslow Brothers and I loved Bidding on Brooks.

The oldest of the brothers is Brooks. He was only seventeen when his father died leaving behind a wife and five kids. Brooks took on the role of man of the house and many times was the father figure for his younger siblings. Now at thirty five Brooks is rich, gorgeous, an ex-Olympian and one of the most eligible bachelors in town. But Brooks isn't looking for love. He's too responsible to get involved with anyone when he only has five years to live. What?! Only five years to live? But that's just an irrational fear right?

Skye knew when she was only ten years old that she would one day marry Brooks Winslow. For her, it was love at first sight. But the only thing they have in common is their love of sailing. As the daughter of the owner of a Marina, Skye has spent her whole life around boats and over the years she's become a trusted friend and mechanic to Brooks. Yes, I said mechanic. She takes care of Brooks' boats at the marina. He's never noticed her beauty hidden under her ball cap and over-alls. But she's noticed him. Things get interesting when Brooks needs a favor and makes her an offer she can't refuse.

There aren't what I would consider major plot twists in Bidding for Brooks. You kinda know from the beginning what bomb is going to drop to blow-up the potential romance between Skye and Brooks. Honestly, that's one of the reasons I love reading Regnery's books. She makes me swoon for the men and enjoy the journey they take to finding true love. Brooks has let his fear of dying like his father keep him from looking for love and to deny himself the future he deserves and longs for. One of the most moving moments is when his sister has a heart to heart with him and relieves  him of all his fears. With Skye's asshole of a boyfriend out of the way, Brooks just has to prove that he may not be the man she dreamed him to be but he is the man for her future.

I loved the peeks into the lives of the other Winslow brothers that have me salivating for their stories and the bonus bits of info on the English family that I was already in love with. You don't have to start with the English Brothers but I recommend that you do just because I know you will love them.

About The Author:
KATY REGNERY, winner of the 2013 NECRWA First Kiss and 2013 Maine RWA Everything But the Kitchen Sink contests, has always loved telling a good story and credits her mother with making funny, heartwarming tales come alive throughout her childhood. A lifelong devotee of all romance writing from Edwardian to present-day, it was just a matter of time before Katy tried her hand at writing a love story of her own. As it turned out, one love story turned into a series of five Heart of Montana romances, following the love lives of the Yellowstone-based Lindstrom siblings. In addition to small-town contemporary romance, Katy is presently writing a paranormal romance that takes place in northern New England and the forests north of Quebec. Speaking of forests, Katy lives in the relative-wilds of northern Fairfield County, Connecticut where her writing room looks out at the woods and her husband, two young children and two dogs create just enough cheerful chaos to remind her that the very best love stories of all are the messy and unexpected ones.
