Will they be able to rediscover that the only answer lies with one another, or will they lose each other forever?

Falling in love with a couple is not hard to do, Especially if they are as well written and amazing as Trey and Monica were in The Only Exception. Trey is the son of a Republican presidential hopeful and Monica is a staunch liberal who is adamant about women's reproductive rights. Together their opposites attract relationship in that book combined to make me fall ass over elbows for their love story. That's why I was excited about getting to to read THE ONLY ANSWER because I wanted more from them. I wanted to see what happens AFTER the Happily Ever After. I got exactly what I asked for and I may not have liked some aspects but seeing my favorite couple again was fantastic.

So they've overcome her tragic past and the repercussions of that and his family being so Anti everything Monica stands for and they stuck together. It's three years later and the two are engaged and now battling a new set of issues. With Trey's father running for president and the election the focus of his fresh out of college career path he's got to juggle the new engagement to Monica and the press. Monica is fresh out of school also with two degrees focusing on Women's issues but with her Republican fiance nobody will take her seriously so she's forced to work somewhere she doesn't want to and the feelings of inadequacy that spring up with it. A surprise is thrown into the mix they weren't planning for and throws everyone, including Trey's family into unexpected turmoil adding another layer into their already complicated lives.

My extreme love for both Trey and Monica naturally carried over into this book but this is where everything got real for me as a reader and lover of this couple. This is where I saw that they are both real characters with complex sets of emotions and different ways of handling problems. Although Monica and I may not see eye to eye on all things politics, I still held a great deal of respect for her and what she went through and understood why she was the antithesis of Pro Life. That being said I was a little disappointed in her immediate thought process in the beginning of the story. I completely understood the "Why's" behind her thinking it just got under my skin a little bit. Monica was a little harder to like in this one for me. She was a little bit more antagonistic about her opinions but ultimately I enjoyed seeing her start to see the other side of things like I hoped she would. Not that it would change her opinion altogether but just help open her eyes to another viewpoint.

Trey Chapman is still the best guy ever. He was a little bit of a pussy in this one not being able to stand up to his father and show Monica that he backed her up but watching him get there eventually was great. I won't spoil why I think he is such a great guy if you haven't read The Only Exception, which I am strongly recommending you do now, but Trey is one in a million in terms of lead male characters or hell, even men in general. He's such a sweet guy and his love for Monica melts my heart every time. What I originally loved about this couple, the fact that they were on opposing sides of the political spectrum, was still in effect but along with Monica, Trey started to come to the realization that his strongly held beliefs aren't always black and white. Finally understanding with the circumstances they were surprised with, Trey got it. He got why Monica strongly felt the way she does about everything and that was a beautiful thing. When a man sees the light bulb, it's magical. Although Trey had a tendency to let Monica lead him around by the balls and was too nice to realize when someone was out to get him I still stood by him. Til my last breath.

Being the "Black Sheep" of the family is something I know all about and having Trip Chapman introduced as the BS of his family made me excited to see what his story involves. With his piercings, tattoos and Finger to the world attitude that landed him in rehab again I'm sure there will be no shortage of fun for him! I loved how the author brought together all elements of the story to work together as a whole. Trip being involved helped Trey figure things out and in turn lead Monica to her understandings about herself and Trey's family. It was like giant ripple effect that touched each character as the story progressed. Watching couples I love fight through life's problems is always a tough thing but Vernon made it semi painless because with this couple, you just KNOW they have the staying power it takes to make it. I pretty much loved everything about the story, even the things that made me a little sad or bothered me some. Probably one of the only things that irked me enough to mention was a particular character Name that was introduced towards the very end. That's about the only thing that made me roll my eyes. Other than that minor issue THE ONLY ANSWER gave me exactly what I hoped to see for my favorite couple.

Quotes:

There was a reason I'd been with her for so long; the girl who was so different from me yet so much the same. The one who kept me together no matter what. The only words I could utter back were the only ones that matter. "I love you, Monica and I'm ready to jump when you say jump." eARC 24%

Tears stung my eyes. I had no words. There was nothing left to say. He'd always loved all my imperfections and seeing that he was able to do that even in front of his dad made me love him even more. eARC 52%

  1. This sounds right up my alley. I love politics, but avoid it a lot bc I get my ranty pants on. I would be with Monica (and Trey) all the way.
