Blog Tour + Giveaway: Wicked Thing by Angeline Kace {Review}

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: September 26th 2013
Format: ARC/Mobi
Source: Provided by author for tour

Carmyn Rafferty witnessed the aftermath of her mother's affair. She learned at a young age not to trust anyone. Especially not your spouse. So she's planned. She's planned every detail of her life: who her husband will be, what their careers will be, what their lives will be like. All to avoid the pain of infidelity. Dallas Brown lives a life all his own. He doesn't do relationships, he doesn't care what anyone thinks of him, and he doesn't live up to anyone's expectations but his own. When Carmyn's fiancĂ© cheats on her, it sends her into a whirlwind of one-night stands with the most infamous player on campus. She can't seem to stay away from this tough guy and his dangerous motorcycle. Everything about him is the complete opposite of who she'd planned to fall in love with: tattoos, dark stubble along his jawline, and hair that brushes his shoulders. As Dallas and Carmyn begin to fall deeper and deeper into each other, they learn that love can truly be a wicked, wicked thing.

My Review:
I have been a big fan of Kace's ever since I read her Vampire Born series, so when I got wind she was trying her hand at a New Adult title I was really excited to get on board. Wicked Thing was a sexy and sweet whirlwind read that wouldn't let me go until I was finished.

Carmyn and Dallas go to the same school, hang out at the same parties and know most of the same people. After a particularly bad break up with a guy she saw herself married to, Carmyn hooks up with Dallas at a party in hopes of taking her mind off her heartache. What she doesn't know is that Dallas has always had a thing for her and will stop at nothing to win her affection. But what he doesn't know is, that may be harder than he realizes because Carmyn has issues in her past that keep her heart locked away. I enjoy books that present a good solid couple that you just know will make it. Wicked Thing didn't have a lot of angst that made me worry about these two. To me it was very evident that once they got together, nothing would be able to break them up. There were some moments thrown in where you might doubt when the characters cock block themselves but for the most part this was a breezy read. Dallas and Carmyn were a great couple and I enjoyed watching them come together.

These two characters both know how badly infidelity can affect relationships. Carmyn witnessing her mother's indiscretion and Dallas living day in and day out with a constant reminder of his father's mistakes. Cheating is a deal breaker for me and I can understand where both of these two characters were coming from after struggling through their ordeals. I loved how strong they both were in how they overcame it but at the same time they both still let it affect them in their daily lives. With Dallas being the campus ladies man (Which is really a nice way of saying Man Slut) Carmyn is reluctant to give her heart away to another perceived jerk. When she actually gets to know him she finds a really sweet guy with a big heart. I loved Dallas Brown. He may have been the biggest whore but watching him get sucked in by Carmyn was highly enjoyable. He wasn't the only one affected though because Carmyn got sucked into the taser beam that is Dallas Brown. Especially with her self inflicted rules about only dating clean cut good guys.

There is some underlying tension between Dallas and secondary character Denton that makes for some interesting drama in this book also. Without saying too much so as not to spoil, I will say that their rivalry was intriguing enough to want to see more of Denton in the future. I really liked his character and felt like he got a the wrong end of the stick in life. He wasn't involved much but just his brief scenes stirred my curiosity enough to want a book for him. Carmyn's best friend Ava was a riot and reminded me so much of my friends the way she talked to Carmyn. I absolutely agree with vulgar names being terms of endearment!

Wicked Thing brought some really steamy scenes to the table which is a first for Kace in my experience and for the most part she nailed it. However Most people know I am a stickler for bad sex words and I wouldn't be true to myself if I didn't mention the few things during the steamy scenes that left a bad taste in my mouth. Girth, wet folds, pubic bone and his "growth" are words that (in my opinion) should NEVER be used during a scene where a book couple is either about to or is having sex. For me it's a total mood killer when I read something like this:

"We keep the constant pace until he pushes so hard into me, I can feel the pulsing of his manhood as he ejaculates"

Yikes. To me it's just too clinical and not very hot. Something like this can kill a moment for me so quickly with most books I would probably turn away after that had I not enjoyed Dallas and Carmyn so much. Although I had my issues with some of the the icky sex words I did enjoy the scenes between Carmyn and Dallas. They had passion and chemistry that pulled me in and made me love them even more. This was a pretty quick read that did capture my attention and delivered a good romance with lovable characters be it main or secondary. I recommend this for fans of Kace's or to anyone looking for a story with little angst and lots of romance.
