Girl With Guitar by Caisey Quinn {Review}

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: May 22nd 2013
Pages: 210
Format: ARC provided by author for review

After Kylie’s dad dies in a freak accident, he leaves her with nothing other than her crazy step-mother, Darla, and the ability to play guitar. When Darla kicks Kylie out and she loses her job all in the same day, she hops a bus to Nashville determined to make her late father’s dreams come true. Waitressing and saving her pennies to record a demo, her big break comes when she’s asked to join a tour going down the tubes with once platinum album-selling country music superstar Trace Corbin. But touring with Trace is hardly a dream come true since he’s pretty much drinking his career down the drain. If Kylie can’t pull Trace out of his rut, he’ll pull her and her dreams down with him.

My Take:
Beautiful, Romantic and Sometimes Heartbreaking, Girl With Guitar is about a girl chasing her dreams and finding so much more along the way.

WOW! I was completely caught off guard by how wonderful this book was. It captivated me and for an entire day I was glued to my seat until I finished which didn't happen until the early morning hours. Being a huge fan of the ABC show Nashville this book was right up my alley. Kylie wants what pretty much every human being wants out of life. Her dreams to come true. When she sets out to make it happen after losing her father and being kicked out of her house by her stepmother she ends up Nashville where she meets Trace Corbin. From the instant Kylie takes the stage during her scheduled performance at an open mic night I was wrapped up in the excitement of watching her wow the crowd. It felt as if I was actually a part of the scene. Of course she chose a Trace Corbin song to rock and OF COURSE this night of all nights is when he's in the audience watching. Everything changes for Kylie when they end up singing a duet together.

I loved Kylie's character. She was sweet and charming and didn't take crap from anyone, especially Trace. Watching her tell him off several times was hilarious, especially when he was left speechless never having anyone treat him like that. The main thing about her character I adored was how she lit up when she went on stage. NO matter what was going on behind the scenes she was able to suck it up and perform flawlessly. Even with a broken heart she managed to still kick some country ass! It was very validating for me as the reader to see she had a spine and didn't let life keep her down. This girl has lost so much in her life and you feel her grief but I loved how the author surrounded her with love and affection from all over. Be it her boss, a co-worker or even Trace's sisters, for everything she lost she gained a whole lot more in return.

Trace Corbin is a funny character. I had seen tweets from a certain author I follow about this country singer named Trace Corbin, and me being an Indie rock girl I didn't know who the hell this guy was. I seriously thought this was a REAL LIFE singer, but I found out it was just clever promotion for this book. That notwithstanding, Traces' character was real in his own way. Having his own issues with his father being an abusive alcoholic and his mother disowning him due to his musical career, he has let it get him down and is starting to head down the same path his father did. When you first meet him, he comes across as a GIANT asshole, but once Kylie starts putting him in his place and getting under his skin you fall completely in love with him. Because he is so famous and he knows that this business can be cruel he tries to help Kylie understand that you have to have a thick skin. Especially when dealing with critics. I loved watching him kind of take her under his wing once he warmed up to her.

These characters had seriously hot chemistry that builds up over time and then bursts! You can tell the attraction is immediate for them both and Trace fighting his attraction made it that much more intense when they finally got together. I enjoyed the slow burn that simmered under the surface of almost every encounter they had, I was literally screaming for them to just bang each other already! It wasn't all "Ankles to Ears" though, Trace and Kylie ended up having a really sweet romance that melted my heart for both of them throughout the book. It almost killed me when her mother tried to cause problems for her later in the story. I had a feeling she was being too quiet in the story and would turn up again. Bitches always do! The only thing about this book that bothered me was I was desperate for a Trace POV. It's told from Kylie's the entire time and it's understandable because it is HER story but I just really found scenes where I NEEDED to know what was going on in his head. Aside from that though this book was fantastic! Sweet, funny, charming, sexy and romantic. Girl with Guitar is a definite must read book about never giving up on your dreams or love!
