Layla...has had a hard life. On her own at a young age, always having to do what needed to be done just to survive. Now she has two other people depending on her and she needs a job fast before they get evicted. A job interview introduces her to Jesse Thornton, the delicious drummer for Demon’s Wings. He reminds her of all the mistakes of her past, but is also her hope for the future. Jesse…has never let anyone in. The only real family he has ever had are his band brothers and Emmie—the only women he has ever loved. But then Layla comes into his life and he would do just about anything to get one taste. Can he move past his own insecurities and allow this woman into his heart?

My Take:
I fell in love with these characters in the first book but this one brought a new depth of love with it. This is about drummer Shane Thornton. Not many people know this but I used to be a drummer in high school so this book was pretty close to my heart from the start. (HaHa that rhymed!) All the band members are living in this gigantic house together in Malibu California and poor Emmie can't keep cleaning up after everyone being so pregnant so she sets up several interviews with prospective new maids. The first two turn out to be judgemental shrews but the third girl is 25 year old Layla Daniels. A spitfire who tells it like it is and hits it off with Emmie immediately. It startles the band because Emmie doesn't really hit it off with females due to her past with an abusive mother. Layla is informed she needs to move into the guesthouse on the property in order to keep up with the daily habits of the four sexy rockers as a live in maid. When the guys get home from the studio while Layla is still discussing terms of the jobs with Emmie she gets an eye full of Shane.

Their first meeting is like "Hi, I'm Shane nice to meet you." (eye fuck, eye fuck, eye fuck) "Oh Shane, Hi I'm Layla." (eye fuck, eye fuck, eeeeyyyyyeee fuuuuuucccckkk *in my opera voice*).

So yeah their chemistry is electric from the start but Layla knows she can't risk getting involved with a rocker because she has to take care of her two little sisters Lana and Lucy. She knows rockers are trouble because her mother was basically a rag doll for rock stars and doesn't want to end up like her. Layla and her sisters move into the guesthouse and she starts her job. As the story moves forward her friendship with Emmie grows stronger and her attraction to Shane grows to explosive proportions and leads to the inevitable combustion. They grow closer as time goes by and bond over shared experiences with crazy parents they've dealt with. Things go great for these two as they fall in love the more they get to know each other until one night at a friend's party. The past that Layla has tried to keep hidden comes back to slap her in the face and throws her relationship with Shane into chaos. She comes face to face with someone she never expected to see again who turns out to be a longtime friend of the band. When they manage to get the drama behind them, a surprise arrival brings everything to a close on a high note.

I was really excited to read this one after loving The Rocker That Holds Me and I wasn't disappointed. Layla and Shane are a great couple and I loved that they had such amazing chemistry that you could feel. Their relationship wasn't practical with him being a rock star and her having to care for her two young sisters but they made it work despite those things. He didn't let his stage persona overshadow who he really was and I think that is why I love these books so much. The guys are all very humble and real even though they have this other life they live. They come from rough backgrounds and it shows in how they take care of each other because they have seen first hand what the other members have gone through. The camaraderie is beautiful between these guys, and I liked that they all just lived in the same house and coexisted together.

Shane was such a great guy to read about. Tall, muscular, BALD and tattooed! OH and I can't forget the billy club he hauls around in his pants. MMM! I love me some bald tattooed guys with huge baby doll arms for peckers. As hot as Shane was in the bedroom it was his soft nature that made him stand out for me. The way he loved his brothers in the band and most of all how he took care of Emmie was very sweet. I love it when a guy shows emotion even if he is in a book and Shane was written strong yet soft. He wasn't a wet noodle that cried at every single thing, but when he was touched by something you could really see it in his demeanor. I thought I would die at the sweetness between him and Emmie when she had her baby. that was such a great moment to witness between them. The friendship they share is very endearing because aside from Nik, Shane is Emmie's rock.

So what kind of woman do you pair up with a tattooed, smoking hot rocker? An equally hot, tattooed, pierced, sarcastic woman with a chip on her shoulder about rockers. I loved Layla's character. Her strength and determination to make sure her family is taken care of came through in every decision she made. When you find out all the shit she went through at a young age it just makes you love her even more. I love that she stepped up for her sisters and didn't let them go to a foster home when their mother died. Layla fights to make sure her sisters have everything she didn't and turned out to be a wonderful role model for them. She didn't immediately give in to Shane's advances even though her "Flaming Lips" (if you understood that reference then you are cool!) were ready for some attention. There is a very specific reason why Layla stays away from rockers that manifests in the form of a plot twist that smacks you in the kisser! I didn't see this one coming, I must be losing my touch because I have been slipping lately not seeing these things beforehand!

What I love most about this author's writing style is that while you are getting the main character's story she is building up for the next book within the current read. This one in particular was setting up the stage for the next rocker Drake to have his story told. Drake is a character I am salivating to get my hands on. In the first book you think he's just a drunk but in this one his story is becoming a little more clear. Whatever he dealt with in the past causes him traumatic nightmares until Layla's sister Lana befriends him and the two become close. When he is with her he doesn't need booze to help him get through the night. The thing is, is that Lana is only 17 and Drake is 31. Throughout this book these two share a deep emotional connection that everyone worries about because of their age difference. Even though Lana wants more it seems, Drake has issues with feeling like a pedophile that instantly caused me to worry because I have a feeling I know what happened to him. I hope I'm wrong but I will stock up on Kaopectate just in case.

Overall this book was a winner for me. Sexy rockers, Drama, Hot Sex and plot twists make up a crazy ride that ends with an interestingly beautiful epilogue to get your bloomers soaked for the next installment, which I get to read very soon! YAY YAH!
