Lover At Last (Black Dagger Brotherhood #11) by J.R. Ward {Autumn & Hootie Joint Review}

Lover At Last (Black Dagger Brotherhood #11)
Paranormal Erotic Romance
Paperback/Hootie
Kindle from Amazon/Autumn

I'm joined on the blog today by one of my close friends and fellow Black Dagger enthusiasts Autumn of The Autumn Review. We read this book together and got together to do a joint review! Enjoy!

Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has finally found an identity as one of the most brutal fighters in the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems to be within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another....Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it’s about time: The male has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young—just as Qhuinn has always wanted for himself. It’s hard to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. As he’s learned firsthand. Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions... but as the battle over the race’s throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn finally learns the true definition of courage, and two hearts who are meant to be together... finally become one.

Autumn:
So, what are your initial thoughts about LAL?

Hootie:
Upon finishing this book that I was so excited about I am feeling 50/50 on the whole thing. There were several things I loved (Hello Gay Sex!) and several things I didn't like.

Autumn:
My initial thoughts were WOW, Huh, and WOW.
I'll come back to how I felt at the end. I guess I should start off by saying how excited I was to read this book. I was really anxious to read about some dude love.

Hootie:
Yes! I think that is what everyone was excited for the most besides finally getting to see Blay and Qhuinn (Qhuay) together! I have had only one other reading experience with an M/M story and I totally hated the other guy. In LAL though I loved both male characters and found their steamy sex incredibly hot!
I mean like 5 alarm, extinguish my panties please!!

Autumn:
It really was well done. Not only was it a complete turn on, but I loved them together as a couple. Nothing turns me on more than two alpha males dinging dongs.
But, I kind of felt like there was too much happening in this book.

Hootie:
hahaha! I didn't think it would be so hot but when those two cocks touched for the first time I had to put the book down and Ring-A_Ding
There was way too much going on this book sadly.

Autumn:
I miss how the earlier books in the series were. They focused more on the couple getting together.
I got easily distracted by so many story lines going on.
I wasn't really interested in Assail at all. I did like Xcor, but I feel like he "goes" with the brothers more.

Hootie:
Yeah I know that's what I thought the entire time. The earlier books focused mainly on the couple at hand. I mean we did get some quality Qhuay time but the addition of the other stories just distracted me from what the main plot was. Not to say I didn't enjoy a few of the other story lines I just think she should have edited this bitch down a little more.

Autumn:
Yeah. I think I felt a bit jipped.
Ok, so other than Qhuay, what were some of your favorite parts of the book?

Hootie:
Xcor was one of the second reasons why I wanted to read this book. The story between him and Layla had me salivating because he is the enemy of the king and Layla is living within the kings compound! How exciting that could have been! Ward dropped the ball with them though because we didn't get to see them together but ONCE! Now as for Assail and Sola *shudders* I can't explain why but I was so excited about the possibility these two will bring. I was dying for them fuck each other! The chemistry was palpable between them.
TREZ AND THE CHOSEN! *shouty Caps*
*fans self*

Autumn:
You are so right! I felt like she was building it up so that Xcor was going to take Layla. She could have totally done that! THEN, we would have had some X&Layla love.
YES! TREZ
I've always liked Trez and iAm, but I felt like we got to know them much better in this book. I really hope Trez get his Chosen!

Hootie:
I almost shat my pantaloons when Xcor was running around the Mhis trying to find where Layla was
We did get to know Trez and iAm in this book but there is still so much more to know!!! Like what the fuck is the S'hisbe? Why was he betrothed? Why not iAm instead of Trez?
You kno I am wondering right now?

Autumn:
Oh I know! Poor Xcor.
I actually did kind of like him in this book. He's kinda sad.

Hootie:
I am wondering where the scribe virgin has been? The last two books she has been AWOL

Autumn:
I think Trez is older that's why he's betrothed.
I think the V put the smack down on the Virgin Scribe.

Hootie:
VISHOUS!
*shivers*

Autumn:
Or she be plotting.

Hootie:
Lord help us all! I am actually scared of what the next book will bring seeing as how Wrath and Beth are mentioned in this one about having an heir

Autumn:
I'm a bit scared about it. Beth wants a baby so bad, but Wrath doesn't. LORDY
Then we have the whole full-blood heir issue. Scary stuff up ahead.

Hootie:
I was just thinking about that

Autumn:
I can see why she decided to go with Wrath and Beth next.

Hootie:
that is what worries me
I love all the other brothers and their Shellans but Wrath and Beth are my favorites, I mean they started the whole series! My heart belongs to them and I am really nervous about what JR plans to do *sigh*

Autumn:
It makes sense though. Because the monarchy is being challenged, so by disrupting Wrath and Beth's happiness, that might leave them vulnerable.

Hootie:
UGH! Shoot me now! That is where my love/hate for Xcor comes in! If he would just focus on Layla and not the throne my stomach wouldn't be in a constant state of unrest!

Autumn:
I think Xcor is going to switch sides because of Layla.

Hootie:
I was hoping that is where things are gong for him because the only other way is death and that CAN NOT HAPPEN!
NO!

Autumn:
Oh! I know what I was going to say!
Were you kind of surprised by the absence of John Matthew. I thought he would be more involved in the Qhuay story line.

Hootie:
Yeah I was! I mean Qhuinn is supposed to be his Astrux Notrum or whatever but Qhuinn spent a shit load of time either alone or with his wiener lodged in Blay's butt.

Autumn:
Yeah, it was a bit suspect.

Hootie:
But then you had the whole "Induction" thing which could have explained it? But then again JM didn't fight that much. Which is another great thing about this book, it didn't have a whole lot of Lesser activity!

Autumn:
Yes, I was happy that it wasn't all about the Lessers.
JM wasn't even at the induction. Did you notice that?

Hootie:
Because he isn't a brother right?
Not officially

Autumn:
Well, he "is" because he bears the mark.

Hootie:
oooh yeah huh. Guess I didn't realize that but it seems Ward dropped the ball on that also

Autumn:
Ok. Let's throw in some more good points.

Hootie:
Lol yes let's!

Autumn:
I loved all the one liners. Ward is definitely one of the best word wranglers.

Hootie:
totally agree, especially Qhuinn! He had the funniest ones next to Rhage! I was cracking up in several parts.

Autumn:
These books always provide a good laugh now and again. Qhuinn is super funny.
Rhage ALWAYS and will forever make me laugh.

Hootie:
I got a question, on a scale of 1 to "I just shit myself" how afraid were you for Zsadist?

Autumn:
V also makes me laugh. And he's not funny, but I love his "matter of fact" way of speaking.
Ok..that wasn't even funny.

Hootie:
What wasn't funny?

Autumn:
You know I was totally serious when I said that I would quit if he died. DONE

Hootie:
That's how I feel about Wrath!

Autumn:
Z getting hurt. That whole scene pained me. Level 10 quitter if that happened.

Hootie:
I was VERY scared not just for Z but for both of us. You don't go through what we went through in his book and just watch him die!

Autumn:
I love how it felt like Z has taken Q under his wing a bit.

Hootie:
Aww yes! Just like he did for JM PreTrans! It was so sweet to see the softer side of Z.

Autumn:
Let's talk about the ending and then wrap it up with our favorite quotes.
Tell me how you felt about the ending. LMAO

Hootie:
*head desk*
I seriously have never read a more lame ass ending in a book ESPECIALLY a brotherhood book!
It was the worst book ending of all time!
*pouts*
I don't think she can come back from that

Autumn:
Yeah, I have to say I was disappointed.
It really hurts me to say that.
I mean..I was laughing when I should have been needing to change my panties.
or at least need a tissue.
I just didn't feel like the ending fit Qhuay well.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad things ended up well for them, but....

Hootie:
I fucking hate Journey now O_O

Autumn:
URGH

Hootie:
I will never listen to Don't Stop Believing ever AGAIN!
I mean of all the gay ass shit she could have put

Autumn:
I can't even SEE the song title anymore without groaning.

Hootie:
She might as well have ended with a Justin Bieber tune
Guys dancing is lame no matter if they are gay or straight
It should have been the carving ceremony

Autumn:
Add in being surrounded by the group. gag.
YES!!! I would have liked it SO much better if they did a carving. I was pretty surprised she didn't.

Hootie:
Were they all singing it to them? because that's what I got the impression of
She basically gave Qhuinn a vagina

Autumn:
Possibly. I think I was laughing too hard.

Hootie:
LMAO! Now I'm cracking up just remembering.

Autumn:
Oh god. I'm scared the Brothers are going to come after us for this review.

Hootie:
I feel like this book should come with a disclaimer
I hope they do "Come" after me! I'm horny after reading straight Weiner action!
WAIT! hold the bitch ass phone!
I forgot to mention PAYNE!
My girl! I was so excited to see her in this book and the role she played to Qhuinn and Layla

Autumn:
Yes. Payne is a stand up chick.
Her book wasn't one of my favorites, but I like her.
Ok, wrapping up. What are your top 3 quotes?

Hootie:
Shit, I have to get this big ass book out and flip through gimmie a few

Autumn:
Here are a few of my favorites.
~Cologne? Gunpowder and orgasms.
~"Don't hit me with that thing, will ya, V?" "It'd be a spanking you'd never forget, I promise you."
~"Are you fucking me."

Hootie:
~ "Be well, my beautiful chosen," he said, as he stared at her with the eyes of not just a lover, but a Hellren pg 567

Autumn:
~"Man, that son of a bitch has got to stop watching Nickel-fucking-lodeon."

Hootie:
~ At least he didn't pull out 'Totes amazeballs' somebody muttered. "That's Lassiter" came an answer. "Man... ok
Dammit Cricket!
~ At least he didn't pull out 'Totes amazeballs' somebody muttered. "That's Lassiter" came an answer.

Autumn:

Describe LAL in three words.

Hootie:
god damnit wait!
I ain't done with my quotes
I got one more

Autumn:
oh sorry! go ahead.

Hootie:
~For a split second, Trez bristled at that - except not because his inner feminist was roaring about females being treated as property, although of course that was wrong. No, it was because...MINE pg 351
Which BTW I was missing the whole MINE thing between Blay and Qhuinn
fuck this big bastard now my back hurts

Autumn:
Me too!!!

Hootie:
That is the whole point of the BDB right? when they find the one it's all about the "MINE"

Autumn:
