Review: Miss Me Not by Tiffany King

They had a pact.

Madison Hanson has spent the last four years being a "shadow." Her parents ignore her. The students at her school stopped talking to her years ago, and the majority of her teachers forget she's even there. In her desperate yearning to leave her invisible life behind, Madison makes a pact with her only friend, James Garrison, to end their lives as inconspicuously as they live them. No fuss, no muss. No one would miss her and she would miss no one. Their plan is set, and it's all she can count on. That is, until fellow student, Mitch Peterson, beats them to the punch. Everything Madison believed in is shaken to the core when she watches the aftermath of Mitch's death unfold. By taking his own life, Mitch unwittingly saves hers. What a selfish prick. 

She is now left with the daunting task of living. Trying to bury her demons once and for all, and finally trusting someone with her fragile existence.

I NEED A HUG! I can't even describe how much I loved this book but I will try! When I first started reading it I was nervous about the subject matter, but as I got into the story I found myself getting absorbed into it so deeply I was halfway through before I realized it! 

So you got this girl, Madison, who doesn't like to be touched and has a bitch for a mom. She doesn't want to continue living in her world of exile. She always felt invisible to her parents so she acted out to try and get attention. When the acting out turned into something more than she could handle shit hit the fan and caused a rift in her life that made her feel like death was the only solution. So she makes a pact with her "friend" James. I used quotations because her friendship with James is superficial only, she hasn't gotten close to anyone due to her past. Before they can carry out the pact another student commits suicide and inadvertently saves Madison's life.


"That asshole Mitch Johnson saved my life today. What a prick."

She starts to reevaluate her situation and the reasons she wanted to take her own life to begin with,when she gets roped into being tutored by one of "The Populars" named Dean Jackson.

OH Dean! 

"Fuck me. Seriously, out of the entire student body, Ms. Jones would pick him."

Madison is immediately prickly with Dean assuming he is another person in her life who will cause her grief over past sins but it turns out he becomes one of her biggest champions. I loved this relationship for so many reasons but the obvious is how much Dean helps Madison throughout the book. After a while they decide to be friends.

"Your regular friends are going to give you shit for it,"

With Dean being popular Madison fears him being associated with her will cause him problems. Dean, being the absolute sweetheart that he is puts her fears to rest and reassures her he doesn't care what anyone else thinks. 

 Madison soon discovers that by having a friendship with Dean she has neglected her "Suicide Buddy" James. Things start to get serious for Dean and Madison as they move from friends to dating and he takes her to meet his family. Dean's mom takes a special liking to Madison and becomes her surrogate mother in a sense which I totally cried about. I felt so bad for Madison during this book but as you slowly progress into the story things start to look up for her. Dean's family takes her in and they show her what a real family is supposed to look like. There were so many funny parts in this book that really helped break up the heavy topics and make it a litter lighter and fun.

"Was it too much to ask for a germaphobe in the group?"

I was pleasantly surprised to find so much witty banter between all the characters. Madison had a spunk about her that made me feel like I could connect to her because I have felt like she has a time or two. When she was faced with negativity she bit back with sarcasm and who doesn't love that!

"Isn't it supposed to be 'dudes before boobs' or something like that?"

I think I found my new catch phrase! I laughed more than I thought I would while reading this book. I absolutely loved that about Miss Me Not. Yes it's a sensitive subject and yes it can get heavy at times but Tiffany broke up the heavy with laughter and sweet moments that will make you tear up or full out cry. With the help of Dean's family Madison starts to put back the pieces of her life and finds it isn't as bad as she once thought and begins the healing process. I was beyond blown away by this book and I have faith you will be too! I absolutely believe this is the strongest book Tiffany has written hands down! I was left feeling....just....

I seriously can't describe how I felt when I was finished with this book! It was the perfect balance of all elements, Drama, Love, Conflict and Tragedy. I loved the way Madison overcame her demons and came out stronger for it. I wanted to beat the shit out of her mother basically throughout the damn book though. Dean was the perfect guy being understanding, sweet, and patient with Madison. The message behind the it all was beautiful, if you hold on for a little bit longer you will eventually come out of the darkness that threatens to take you down. You don't stay in one situation for too long and Miss Me Not really brought that fact to light. It was the perfect book to read for anyone who has felt like the only way out is suicide and the author should be really proud of that. I highly recommend you give this book a try because like me, you WILL NOT REGRET IT!
