No Pants Required, the title alone appealed to me. I'm a lose-the-pants-and-bra kinda girl when I get home from work. I was hoping it would be light hearted read too. Sometimes I just need a little romance without the angst. I loved right from the beginning that I felt akin to Makayla because of her feelings about participating in karaoke. Not to mention her inability to look away when a couple gets more than a little frisky in a dark corner (takes me back to my first experience in a strip club...good times).

Makayla is a smart, strong willed, ambitious girl. She was pretty confident too until her love life takes a major detour through shitsville. At least she has a best friend (Maggie) to help her recover from heartbreak and reinvent herself. That's where the fun begins. An outrageous to-do list should help Makayla kick-start her new i'm-not-uptight life and the sexy hunk of man flesh that just boarded her flight is the perfect guy to use for the project.

Cam Waters' reasons for leaving New York aren't too different from Makayla's. His way of coping and moving on from his past are a little different though. He hasn't really been moving on but more like stewing in anger with his future placed on pause. It's like fate that he and Makayla come together. They will be the spark that each of them needs to not only recognize who they want to be but to also become their best selves.

There's plenty of heat and chemistry between Cam and Makayla. The dirty talk and banter was really fun. I think part of what I loved most though was Cam's journey overcoming the loss of his brother and finding true love.

I didn't realize Kace's story was a spin-off from one of Quinn's other series, The Bourbon series. It was also darker than the other books I've read by her but so share worthy. 

Kace Haywood was fighter on the fast track to stardom with the potential to be a champion. In one night he lost it all. He was betrayed by his trainer and his hometown turned their backs on him. What's worse is that his own father who was very vocal about his disappointment in his only son, also believed the stories in the press and completely destroyed what little self-worth Kace had. 

His best friend Jett Colby is the only one to stand by Kace even when an epic lapse in judgement leads to irreparable damage. I loved the loyalty and support that Jett gave Kace. I was a little confused at times by the affection that Kace felt towards Jett's girlfriend Goldie throughout the story.  I feel like I would've understood better if I had read the Bourbon Series but I really enjoyed her character. She's sassy and pushes Kace's buttons. She's determined to help her best friend Lyla capture his heart. 

 There's a push and pull between Kace and Lyla that felt a little repetitive at times but I loved that she was determined to break through the walls Kace has built around his heart. She was willing to give him what he needed and was patient when he pushed her away. He struggles with his desire to be with Lyla when he feels she deserves better and he won't allow himself to find happiness.

 In his efforts to find penance for his mistakes Kace helps Jett with a community center they're building. He also reaches out anonymously to the others his mistakes effected. I loved the way Quinn brought his past and his present together. A little girl named Madeline is the brightest spot in this story. Quinn adds a perfect little twist to the story that heals all wounds and gave me the happily ever after that I love.

SO FREAKING GOOD!! I loved Hollywood Dirt! It's in my top 5 favorites of the year so far. Being a Georgia girl myself I was instantly connected to the story. The author includes so many of the Southern qualities that most foreigners (meaning anyone not from the south) point out in a way that would suggest we're simple minded or possibly afflicted with an ailment. My in-laws (from the west coast) always explained my behavior was due to the fact that I was Southern. True enough I guess. Torre nailed the personality of the Southern woman.

Summer Jenkins biggest ambition was to get out of Quincy, Georgia. Not got to college, or find a career, or the man of her dreams but just to get out of the town that had ostracized her and her mother for the last three years. The reason for the shunning is a-whole-nother story within the story that is revealed piece by piece and boy is a juicy one. Summer had been engaged once and was in no hurry to find another man. Certainly not a cocky movie star that had no manners.

The swoon-factor for Cole Masten is off the charts. He's totally in love with his wife of five years. She breaks his heart and then files for divorce. Cole of course seeks out the typical cure by screwing his way through the pain. I wasn't thrilled with that but not surprised by it either. The best divorce lawyer he could hire turns out to be one of my favorite supporting characters along with Justin, Cole's assistant and Ben, the gay location scout.

Cole and Summer are like oil and water when they meet for the first time regardless of the fact that they are instantly attracted to each other. He's there strictly to make a movie about her small town and when Summer shoots her mouth off at him he finds himself more than a little turned on by her feistyness but also realizes she is exactly what he was looking for in a woman to play his leading lady in the movie. Summer can't say no to $500,000, her ticket out of town and until the movie is completed she will also have a front row seat to the most exciting thing to ever happen in Quincy.



The sexual tension between Cole and Summer and their never-ending urge to one-up each other made Hollywood Dirt so much fun to read. They have more in common than either suspected and they end up being the balm needed to heal each others heart. I loved it so much that I lack the vocabulary to adequately express just how good this book was. And oh my lawd I loved what Summer did to get back at her ex-fiance. You will die! Hollywood Dirt is a MUST READ.

 

EXCERPT: When the door to the production trailer burst open, it brought with it a wave of heat and beauty. Cole looked up from the storyboards and locked eyes with Summer, who blew across the room at him like a tornado on tilt. “There’s no love story between Ida and Royce.” Summer snapped, throwing down the script, pages fluttering down between them. In the small trailer, conversations stalled and he could feel the attention turn their way. “I’ve read the book. Three times!” It was good to know that someone had read the damn book. Cole glanced down at her temper tantrum of a mess and back up, raising his eyebrows mildly. “It’s a movie,” he said, turning back to the storyboards. “The writers are adding some excitement. It’s normal. You’d know that if you were in this business.” The dig was unnecessary but he couldn’t help it. This woman turned him into the devil. “I read the first script. The one you sent over with my contract. Ida and Royce hated each other. Why would Royce…” she snatched up a page from the ground and read out a line. “pushes Ida against the file cabinet and kisses her passionately.” She balled up the page and threw it down to the ground and he could see, in her eyes, the panic. Panic. An unexpected reaction. “We’ll use that,” Don made the dangerous move of stepping in, putting a soft hand on her shoulder. “You don’t understand. The passion from their hatred will make it hotter.” “No.” Summer said, her face hard, her eyes on Cole. “It doesn’t make it hotter. It makes it stupid.” “Aww… come on, Summer.” Cole chided, stepping closer, his hand reaching out to pull at her wrist. She fought him, yanking it back and the moment of their bodies meeting didn’t happen. He leaned down and whispered, right against her ear, the smell of her apple-scented lotion enough to make him want to empty out the production trailer right that moment. “Sure it does.” She jerked back and twisted away. “If he kisses me on camera I’m going to lose it.” She shot at Don, pointing an accusatory finger in Cole’s direction. “I know you will,” Cole laughed, crossing his arms to fight from reaching out. “You’ll fall apart under my mouth, baby.” Summer screamed in response, her hands thrown up in frustration, and spun to leave, her script left behind, the slam of the exit door loud in the full production trailer. “That went well,” Cole mused. He linked his hands and rested them on his head, rolling his shoulders back. Panic. She’d had panic in her eyes. Fuck. “What do you expect?” Don said. “You threw this on her without warning. I told you we should have met with her this morning, gone over the changes to prepare her. But no – you just wanted to dump it on her via call sheets and sides.” “Dump it on her? I was People’s Sexiest Man last year. She’s not mentally adjusting to a war camp for God’s sake. How hard is it to kiss me?” “It’s actually three kisses,” a dark-haired PA to his left pointed out. “And a grope.” He gave her a hard look and she withered a little. “I’ll go talk to her,” Don said. “Eileen, you shoot #4 and I’ll talk to Summer. I want to try to get #14 shot at eleven so let’s get our asses in gear and get this done.” “I’ll talk to her.” Cole stepped in. “You shoot #4 and I’ll talk to her.” “No,” Don snapped. “With my luck you two would make up and any authenticity to the scene would disappear. Just stay away from her and be ready at eleven.” Cole chewed on his cheek, then nodded. “Fine.” Don was right. He should stay away from her. Far. Far away.

I missed my calling in life I think. I had a male model tell me once that I could be his fluffer.  You know, the person that made sure his junk was in the right place during a photo shoot. Of course we were totally joking around but there is seriously a job that includes getting to put oil all over the model and make sure his bits are posed properly. Now there's book about a girl with that job and I didn't want to put it down. 

Solo Cohan is part of a team known as the Duo. Her and her best friend Nolly work at a modeling agency and interact daily with male models. Solo has been burned before and has vowed to never date another model. I loved her as soon as she put one of the models, Gunner, in his place.

"Gunner, if I gave into my feelings toward you, you would have your dick shoved down your throat and your fingers shoved up your ass with your balls dangling from your neck like a gobbling turkey."

Adam James is about as cute as it gets. He's never modeled before but is desperate for money and willing to do almost anything. He has an instant connection with Solo. Both are huge fans of Star Wars and their initial interaction was so playful that I just loved them. Solo lets Adam know pretty quick that she's not interested but he's persistent and she can't help but notice that he is genuinely different from the other models she's worked with. 

The owner and photographer of the agency is a hot blond barbie type that has no qualms against sleeping with the models. She comes off as a real bitch most of the time and I was shocked when she proved to have more character than I expected. With Solo's insecurities because of a cheating ex-boyfriend and the fact that her boss has a reputation of taking what she wants, she makes the mistake of not trusting Adam. I love that the author didn't make him into some man whore when his feelings get hurt. He has a heart of gold. I loved his devotion to taking care of his sick mother. 

One of my favorite things about the story was Solo's relationship with her gay dads. At one point they walk in on Adam and Solo about to have sex and it was too much fun.  I also loved feeling like I was getting a peek at what it would be like to work in the modeling world. It would be a blast to spend the day working with male models or just being a fly on the wall of one those model houses. I really hope the author continues this series. There are several supporting characters that I would love to get more of, especially Nolly and Scout. This was a great read.
