Age group: Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Entangled Bliss
Release Date: June 16, 2014

She’s in over her head and he’s in hot water…

Visiting her friends Ellie and Charlie in Hawaii was supposed to be a much-needed vacation for journalist Justine Simms. But when she learns the notoriously reclusive pro-surfer Chase Ryder is coming out of retirement for a competition, she knows she’s found the perfect exclusive to save her career. Of course, then she learns he’s the gorgeous, secretly nerdy guy who broke her heart a year ago.

Will Davenport—aka Chase Ryder—doesn't do interviews. He keeps his real name out of the papers and doesn’t mix his public life with his private. That is, until the still-heartbroken Justine blackmails him into giving her an exclusive. Seeing Justine, stunningly beautiful as ever, brings back all the feelings he had before. But despite their smoldering attraction, nothing has changed since he had to leave her the first time.

My Review:

The Prefect Kisses series isn't something I'm too familiar with yet. I have only read one book and that was about Charlie and Ellie from Falling For Her Soldier. I fell in love with those characters and briefly met Justine Simms. Making Waves sounded like a sweet second chance story I couldn't turn away from.

Justine and Chase have unfinished business to deal with. Having been a year since either of the saw each other they come face to face when Justine asks for the story of Chase' retirement announcement. The two dated for a short time before Chase, who was then known as Will, leaves without an explanation breaking Justine's already fragile heart. He agrees to give her an exclusive about his retirement and explain why he left if she agrees to keep the secret of his identity.

To be such a short little addition to the series Making Waves did just that with enough back story to explain everything and plenty of present goodness to reconcile the characters. I was curious about Justine from the previous book and I enjoyed getting to know her. She's got a fierce determination to be a dedicated and serious journalist. After Will broke her heart I had first thought she would be unrelenting in her anger towards him but she made me proud when she actually gave him a chance to explain. One of the most surprising things I found out about Justine is she has developed a serious fear of the water after losing her best friend in a drowning incident. Why she would choose to visit her friends in Hawaii made me scratch my head at first but something had to bring her to the place where Chase is in order for the story to make sense.

With Chase being a famous surfer he's hiding his dual identities in order to protect his mother after a robbery incident left them both shaken up. When he's not the famous island native Chase Ryder he's Will Davenport, the somewhat nerdy computer programmer in the off season. I love a a guy who can be both types. Chase was both a sexy surfer and nerdy computer geek. He was intelligent and strong. Basically every woman's wet dream. We all want a man who can engage us in good conversation yet pick us up and manhandle us a little bit and Chase was that guy in every sense of the word. I liked seeing things from his perspective and how he felt about Justine once they finally cleared up the misunderstanding between them. Chase was very sweet, understanding and patient when it came to Justine and getting to know her again.

Of course when it comes to having one character with dual identities you run the risk of being discovered and it's only a matter of time before the cat is let out of the bag. I already had a feeling about what was coming and hit the nail on the head. The slow and sweet romance between these two characters was well done and I loved how strong their bond was. Seeing Charlie "Big Game Hunter" and Ellie again was a real treat. I always enjoy seeing couples I loved again. These two are just as adorable as ever. Making Waves was a pleasant reminder of what I loved about Falling For her Soldier and just solidified my decision to finish reading the series.

~ She was shoved up to the rope and was about to receive the next high five when Will stopped right in front of her, his brown eyes locking on hers. He reached out, but not to slap her palm. Instead, his hand cupped her cheek, then slid behind her neck, pulling her toward him. His firm lips crashing over hers sent a shockwave of heat from her mouth to her cheeks then out her fingers. eARC 22%

~ He looked up to see Justine before him. She wore the blue bikini top and one of those sarong things around her waist. It was white and sheer and tied in a knot right below her belly button, showing off her curvy hips and flat stomach. She also had a bright pink flower tucked behind an ear. He didn't know how her beauty managed to stun the hell out of him again, but it did. "You fit right in here," he said, touching the flower. "Like you were born this way." eARC 63%
