   Synopsis:
Dare to Resist By New York Times Bestselling Author Laura Kaye May 12, 2014 Trapped and tempted, this battle of wills rages all night long… KadyDresco and Colton Brooks click on a level that defies logic. There are only two problems. One, he’s her older brother’s irritating best friend, and two, they're bidding on the same military security services contract. When the competition heats up, Colton is torn between wanting to strangle Kady (and her annoying brilliance) and kissing her into submission. Which is a bad idea for a million reasons, because Kady’s submission is exactly what he craves. Being trapped in a tiny motel room with the object of his darkest fantasies will require every ounce of his restraint. Kady doesn’t want his restraint, but Colton knows better. She deserves love, marriage, and a white picket fence—three things Colton can’t give her. But her proximity and the memory of their steamy near-miss three years ago slowly destroys his resolve. And he’s not sure how much longer he can keep his hands off…or his heart closed.

Review:

Setting up what is sure to be a fantastic series of sexy stories by authors who I adore, Kaye delivers a saucy little romp for one of my favorite tropes. The brothers best friend and the annoying little sister. Kady and Colton's story was short, sweet and exceptionally steamy as they are trapped together during a rainstorm in Nevada after competing for a military contract. Kady is hoping the win will help her move up in a male dominated field. Colton wants to win the contract to further build his small security firm he started after getting out of the military.

It was fun watching these two skirt each other. It's obvious they have a past together when they both remember a night in a pool house that was interrupted by her brother. They were both into it at the time but Colton pulled away because he feels his dark sexual desires are too much for Kady so he's spent years avoiding her. Colton was an emotionally damaged man. His parents failed marriage has scarred him and along with his inner desires makes him think he's not the marrying kind. He had a sweet side to him underneath all the "Grr I like it rough" attitude. He showed he could handle taking care of Kady and I liked that. I admired Kady as a female lead. She's working in a field completely dominated by men and her determination to prove to herself and everyone else she can do just as good of a job really pleased my inner feminist. She made me roll my eyes a time or two when she just happened to discover her desire for rougher sex AFTER reading an erotic novel. It was a little cliche in my opinion because I find it hard to believe a book can make you suddenly want those things. I think it has more to do with awakening those desires already inside but I digress. It wasn't a big deal so, moving on.

The sexy times were of course very productive. Kaye knows how to work the chemistry between her characters into a foamy lather you want to bathe yourself in. I thought the discussion Colton and Kady had regarding the rougher kink was very responsible of them and once again showed me Colton was a great guy. They covered all angles and made sure if things got carried away they had steps in place to stop immediately if the need arose. Although it was pretty smoking hot I would say on a scale of "1 to gimme my vibrator" I would sit this somewhere in the middle of diddle-ville. I didn't feel the need to get better acquainted with my couch arm but it got pretty good. The fact that Kady has never been able to orgasm with another man added a bond between them aside from their previous connection with one another. This was a concept I could grab onto because I've been in her shoes. If it wasn't him or her own clever machinations (haha I used a big word!) she couldn't enjoy herself.

The military aspect was a plus for me because I have a hard on for soldiers. It wasn't totally focused on that aspect though but just the mention of hot guys in uniform with big hands was enough to entice me. Hopefully someone throws in a soldier in one of these coming stories. The conflict between Colton and Kady was mildly angst filled which always works for me. Once they both stop trying to avoid each other they make room for something great to grow from their relationship. I love the way Kaye wrapped up her story with an ending that had the feeling of an epic romance movie. I was left with a big smile on my face with excitement in my belly for what's to come.

~ A dark, possessive satisfaction rose up within him. She'd only ever come for him? No other man? He probably shouldn't like that as much as he did, but he fucking loved it. eARC 63%

~ Whether he'd meant to or not, he'd taken her heart with her. What else would explain the hollow, aching emptiness she felt inside her chest? eARC 90%
