While his family and friends desperately try to reach through to him, he shelters himself further and further away from their love.

Alyssa Myers has worked her entire life to distance herself from the luxurious and privileged lifestyle in which she was raised. Running her non-profit agency, The Haven, she is content to spend her days helping abused animals find sanctuary, which fulfills her in a way that money just can’t buy.

Maybe it’s that she recognizes in Brody some of the same characteristics she sees in her homeless wards, but Alyssa is powerless to stop her personal quest to make Brody whole again.

While Brody struggles to surface from the darkness, Alyssa tries to protect her heart in case he’s not willing to accept the light that she offers him.

Globug's Review

What could possibly be better than a hot surfer man? His TWIN!! That's right. The first two books in the Last Call series are about Hunter and Brody, twin brothers. This is Brody's story. We meet him in book one after he has been released from prison serving time for murder. Now he's working at his brothers bar and struggles to start his new life when his past weighs on him daily.

I was really looking forward to getting the details of what happened with Brody. The prologue gives us a glimpse of six years ago on the night he killed a man. Through out the story Brody gives us bits of that night. He's been keeping a secret this whole time. It's part of the reason he has such contempt for Alyssa. In the first book he lashes out at her when she tries to help him with his community service plans. He has this image of her being a spoiled rich bitch like his ex Stacy. What he doesn't expect is that she is the sweetest and most selfless girl he's ever met.

Alyssa is devoted to the animal shelter she built. Though she is very wealthy she works hard daily giving everything she has take care of the animals. She does most of the work alone. It would have been perfect if Brody had agreed to help out but after his verbal beat down she has no plans to ask for his help again.

I was not happy when his ex-girlfriend Stacy came to town. Let's just say I vote to shank the skank. When she approaches Brody seeking forgiveness and a possible reconciliation he flips and gives her a piece of his mind. Alyssa just happens to witness the whole thing. Brody is forced to trust Alyssa after she over hears what he's been hiding from everyone. Once she has his trust they are both able to start admitting what their true desires are. Brody is able to let go of biased judgments of her and see the true quality of her character. They both fall hard and fast and the author does an amazing job bringing the sweet heat to the story.

Not only is there the twist of what Brody's secret is but there's a creeper factor in the story as well. Alyssa's ex-boyfriend goes all psycho stalker. Brody could find himself back in jail if he breaks parole to deal with this lunatic. This situation brings clarity to Brody and what his feelings for Alyssa are.

I loved the way the author bought healing for not only Brody's heart but also to his family. We are also rewarded with a phenomenal epilogue. Though this can be read as a stand alone I highly recommend reading both. I mean seriously, twins would stick together right. I'm anxious for the next book in the series. There are a lot of characters to love.

Sawyer would like to report she doesn’t have many weaknesses but can be bribed with a nominal amount of milk chocolate.
