It didn’t matter that the ref called it a clean hit. Nico Hunter would never be the same. Elle has a good life. A job she loves, a great apartment, and the guy she’s been dating for more than two years is a catch and a half. But it’s boring…and she strives to keep it that way. Too many emotions are dangerous. Her own past is living proof of what can happen when you lose control. Then Nico walks into Elle’s office and everything changes…for both of them. But what can the tattooed, hard-bodied MMA fighter and the beautiful and always steady attorney have in common? A lot more than they bargained for. ***Author's note*** THIS IS A STAND-ALONE NOVEL. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

My Review:

I've noticed recently that books featuring MMA fighters are in abundance right now. Having read several in this trope I have discovered that some of them are really good and some of them are REAL-LY bad. Worth The Fight was definitely worth the risk with lots of tender romance and hot sex this book was a Knockout.

Elle and Nico were one of those couples that make you fall in love with them instantly. From their first meeting I had butterflies in my belly that stayed throughout the story. I loved how Nico shook up everything Elle tried to keep structured in her life. He wouldn't allow her to run from her feelings and after a while she didn't want to. God, if there was ever a character to empathize with it would be Elle. She watched for years as her father abused her mother and that left some serious scars with her after one deadly night when she was a child. I think out of both these characters her tragedy was a bit more emotional in my opinion. I was pretty heart broken to discover exactly what happened to her as a child. I can't imagine being in her position especially having to live with what happened every day. She's had to live her life devoid of any emotion because she feels as if she's a monster who doesn't deserve it. That's why she is with William. A handsome guy with a lot going for him who satisfies her physical needs and nothing else. I was happy to find that William wasn't much an issue once she began something special with Nico. Elle was one of those characters that was so damn strong she needed an equally strong man to break her defenses down completely and make her feel again.

Which brings me to the man himself. The tanned and tattooed  green eyed hottie Nico Hunter. Just saying his name I feel like I need a microphone so I can shout it like they do at the fights. Elle isn't the only one dealing with something tragic that has shaped who they are now. Poor Nico hasn't been the same since one particular fight changed his life. It's not easy seeing anyone in pain but there is something heartbreaking about seeing a man struggle emotionally. Maybe it's because they are revered as the strong ones. Or maybe it's that we don't view them as overly emotional but watching Nico suffer with something that was beyond his control hurt me for him. He was such a great guy with a big heart. Nico might be a muscled and tatted up fighter but the way he loved Elle was beautiful. He too has been running away from the past by not fighting anymore but when he meets Elle he finds his strength to get back in the ring. Once he gets back into the swing of things he is faced yet again with another reminder of the past with his newest opponent. This was surprise for me because it wasn't announced until later in the book and I actually gasped when I found out. Talk about a right hook to the temple! Not only does Nico have to face what happened but he fears he may relive it as well. That was probably the hardest part of watching Nico struggle constantly.

The best part was probably the hot sex between these two! I love some good steamy scenes and there is no shortage of lovin' in Worth The Fight. With Elle and Nico being two passionate people the chemistry between them was very realistic. It was something that was felt the further into the story I got. Lately the books I have come across have had one or two steamy scenes scattered throughout but Nico and Elle really bring the damn heat with this one. They couldn't keep their hands off each other and I loved watching how playful they got. Spatulas as sex toys? Where are the adventurous men like Nico at? You know, besides in books. Apart from the hot sex it was really nice to watch these two fall in love and help each other get past their issues together. Despite the fact that Nico tries to push Elle away there wasn't a doubt in my mind that these two extremely strong characters wouldn't make it through.

Between Nico's large family, his boisterous trainer and the guys at his gym who give him shit all the time especially about Elle, there is no lack of entertainment to lighten some of the more serious moments. I loved how all the secondary characters had an actual purpose and weren't just filler. Nico's trainer "Preach" was funny and witty, and didn't put up with his b.s. especially when he was training to get back into the ring. It was nice to see him show a soft spot for Nico also. His mother and siblings were a fun group to see come into the story and I loved how they took Elle in immediately just because Nico loved her so much. His brothers were hilarious once they all got together.

Worth the Fight was exactly what I needed in an adult contemporary read. Sexy, intense, romantic and sweet. The book as a whole was amazing and the way everything wrapped up put a serious smile on my face. This book was a definite win for me and also one I wouldn't mind reading again just because it was that good. If you like a nice upbeat romance with steamy sex and mild drama, then Worth The Fight is worth a shot!

Quotes:

“You’re a beautiful, smart, strong woman who is used to being treated like a lady.” I’m confused at his words and Nico sees it on my face. He pulls me to him and buries his face in my neck. His breath is so close to my ear when he speaks, I feel the words throughout my body as he speaks them. “But when I finally get you underneath me, I’m definitely not going to treat you like a lady.” ARC 29%

The way he looks at me makes my heart skip a beat, something I’m only just learning to enjoy. Too many years of my life went by with me flatlining, trying to evade all emotions. It’s the first time I want to feel in a long time. Feel the highs and the lows and all that’s in between. ARC 45%

  4. Nicoooo Hunterrr!!!

MMA isn't my thing, I can get into all that aggression unless it's in bed. The heroine is my kind of gal though, past and all. From your review, this Nico guy probably made you want to do some serious grappling with someone huh. I feel ya, I want to be grappled too.
