Review: His Wicked Games by Ember Casey

Series: A His Wicked Games Novel

Lily Frazer would do anything to save the Frazer Center for the Arts—even take on the infamous billionaire Calder Cunningham. When Lily breaks onto the Cunningham estate, she only wants to find and reason with Calder. (All right, all right, she wants to punch him in the face, too, but that's Plan B.) As it turns out, the arrogant billionaire is willing to give her the money he promised, but there's a catch: she must win it from him.

And the games he has in mind aren't exactly... innocent.

Lily isn't about to give up the money without a fight (or let some haughty bastard seduce her), but she quickly discovers that there might be more to the brooding Calder than she initially perceived. As their games of cat and mouse become increasingly sexual in nature, she suddenly finds herself confused by her own emotions. Can she deny her attraction long enough to win the money she needs?

A contemporary, steamy take on Beauty and the Beast, His Wicked Games is a tale of devilish deeds, wild passions, and wicked romance.

Globug's Take

Let me start with Lily. I love this girl right from the start. She's full of piss and vinegar. Not willing to take no for an answer, she shows up at Calder Cunningham's front gate to get what his family owes her. After flashing her assests in a moment of frustration she goes one step further and climbs the gate when not given entrance. So it's no surprise when she's being chased for trespassing but it's a huge shock when it turns out to be mister hot billionaire Calder himself, not security.

Calder Cunningham has a reputation. But it's no concern to Lily. She officially hates him because he has withdrawn his monetary donation that his family has given to the community center she helps her father run. Without the funding the Cunningham family provides, the Frazer Center for the arts will have to close. Well at least that's how Lily sees it. Now that she's face to face with Calder and she's forced to stay in his home due to a storm that has flooded the roads, there may be more to this man than she expected.

Lily tries to deny her attraction to Calder. I have to say I wasn't a huge fan of his at first. He's comes across cocky and ready to take Lily straight to bed just because he assumes she must be attracted to him. And no doubt, she is attracted to him but she is determined to convince him to fulfill his contract to donate funds. So the games begin between the two. You would think in this huge estate that she would be able to keep her distance. That would make for a really lame story though right? No worries. Lily tells herself repeatedly to stay away but the lady ache is speaking a little louder. From the lead characters giving themselves pleasure to getting down and dirty together in the car, the author brings plenty of heat to the story.

Lily continues to catch glimpses of emotions Calder tries to hide. After all, it's only been a few months since his father passed away. But he makes it very clear he doesn't want to discuss those things with Lily. She's not eager to share her personal failings with him either but her ex isn't making it easy when he shows up at the Cunningham estate. Garrett the ex-boyfriend starts to show his crazy when he thinks Lily may be moving on. And Lily gets the feeling Calder has been stringing her along with promises of winning the money for the Center.

Now Lily is forced to figure out a way to keep the Center open without the help of Cunningham money. Calder is more than just the billionaire playboy but can she forgive his misleading her. Can he admit his mistakes and swallow his pride to give Lily the truth. I loved how the author brought the characters to their happy ending. I can't wait for their story to continue in book two titled Truth of Dare.

Ember Casey is a twenty-something writer who lives in Atlanta, Georgia in a den of iniquity (or so she likes to tell people).
