His eyes were rimmed red when they met mine. "I die inside every time he touches you, and there's nothing I can do about it. You've made it clear that you're going to go on with this sham of a marriage, no matter who it hurts in the process. You lie to everyone, Jordi, including the people you're supposed to love the most. And I just can't take it anymore. This is not the way I want to live my life." "I thought I was worth it," I mumbled. "You have no idea what you're worth," he said softly. "That's the problem." In book #2 of the Fierce saga, Jordi Hemphill has joined her true love Jace Riga on cross-country tour with Giovanni Carnevale and Dreaming in Blue. The star-crossed lovers anticipate the freedom to explore their burgeoning relationship, despite the continued complications of her ties to her tormentor Eddie Nix and Jace's new standing as a rock icon. Nothing is as it seems, which make the pair fodder for the rumor mill. Forces from all directions threaten to tear them apart, but it is Jordi's own insecurities that drive a wedge between the aspiring diva and her hero. Author Ginger Voight further delves into the key issues that keep Jordi from defeating her demons once and for all. This sweeping saga unearths revelations that will rock Jordi's world forever... and set her on the path to the path to her story's epic conclusion.

My Take:
There are three things you need to know before reading a Ginger Voight book. 1) You WILL fall in love with her characters. It's inevitable, don't fight it. 2) Her characters will break your heart. There's nothing you can do about it, just go with it, and 3) at some point in her stories you will hate Ginger with such a fiery passion it will almost cripple you.

Nobody writes beautifully flawed characters quite like Voight does and none more so than young Jordi Hemphill. Being overweight is only one of her problems. This poor girl has battled sexual abuse as a child we discovered in the first book in this series. On top of that she is struggling with inner demons and being in the public spotlight as she tries to follow her dream of being a singer. After the end of the FIERCE competition where she came in second place she ended up falling in love with the show's winner, Jace Riga. I started to think they would be happy in this book but I forgot that Jordi let her high school crush, Eddie, blackmail her into marrying him so he could mooch off her wealth when he blew out his knee ending his football career. Being overweight myself I could identify with Jordi's internal dilemma of never feeling pretty especially in a world full of thin, young and beautiful girls always catching the eye of every guy. She struggles with accepting herself in this book and let's Eddie and her inner demons nearly ruin the only good thing she has ever had in her life...

Jace. The other thing Voight does spectacularly is write a male character so AMAZING that you want to literally climb inside the book and marry him because you know there isn't a guy alive who could hold a candle to him. Jace is the bright spot in this series for me. After losing his leg in Afghanistan and coming home to learn his fiance no longer wanted him because of it, Jace discovered his passion for singing while recovering. This ultimately leads him to the competition where he meets Jordi and falls for her. He was so amazing and understanding of all Jordi's issues and was the only person she confided in about her abuse. I loved how gentle he was in trying to help her deal with everything. This guy stood by her side continuously even while having to watch her "husband" Eddie paw all over her trying to make Jace jealous. He did everything he could to reassure Jordi that he wasn't going anywhere, even gave her his father's wedding ring to prove it. He always knew exactly what to say and do to prove his love and I couldn't get enough of him. I don't think I could have handled reading anything in his POV because I might have swooned to death. He was labeled the hero throughout the competition and proved just how much of a hero he was when he yet again comes to Jordi's rescue and saves her from another bad situation.

There are several obstacles these two face while trying to keep their relationship a secret and some almost succeed in bringing them down. With one of the finalists in the competition Shelby, being madly in love with Jace but not knowing he's in love with Jordi the drama is at an all time high. Not to mention the constant threat Eddie poses with his Jordi/Jace sex tape scandal just waiting to drop the bomb on them. Being that she's a flawed character Jordi makes bad decision after bad decision because she can't help herself. She feels like by her taking the hits for everyone else in the media she is saving them from pain and heartache but ultimately turns everything into a cluster fuck. I felt so bad for her and got really angry when she got in her own way and nearly ruined a good thing with Jace. She almost lets her jealousy and turmoil destroy the love she has built with Jace throughout the story but thankfully he doesn't give up on them when she does and proves to be one of the best male characters I have read in a book.

The most surprising factor in this story for me was Vanni. For fans of the series you know him to be the fuck up man whore lead singer of Dreaming In Blue from the Groupie trilogy. I never thought I would ever be able to forgive Vanni for his complete and total shitty behaviour in Groupie but he redeemed himself in this book. Not only has he grown and matured since his story ended but he becomes a great friend and mentor to Jordi and helps her understand just how damaging living in the spotlight can be. He takes her under his wing and opens his soul up and shares with her everything he did and some of his past issues that help Jordi out tremendously. I got to see a side of him I honestly didn't think I would care to see because he hurt me so badly in Groupie but watching him with his family and actually seeing the change in him was a seriously amazing moment in the story for me.

Angst is not something I enjoy experiencing in a story, especially the almost extreme angst Voight takes you through with her raw characters and emotionally draining stories but I am honestly glad I stuck through this one. This series isn't nearly as anger inducing as Groupie but it does get the blood flowing through your arteries. The ending was incredibly bittersweet and I was shocked and upset to find out there will be another book because that means I have to run to the border for some illegal Mexican Valium in order to survive it! I am looking forward to a few characters getting their comeuppance though so I guess I will suck it up and read it. Overall though, Unstoppable was a very raw and emotionally challenging but fantastic addition to the series I wouldn't have wanted to miss. I highly recommend Voight's books for those of you who enjoy endearing and honest characters with everyday real struggles faced in reality.

Quotes:
He always made me feel like the sexiest woman alive. He called me me his goddess, which is what I became at the tips of his fingers and the end of his tongue. My body had been branded for him alone. Nothing else even came close to satisfying my hunger for him. eARC 2%

"You think you got away with something," Jace said. "But you didn't. You couldn't. No matter what you did, she triumphed. You stole nothing. You corrupted nothing. She's still able to love and to trust, despite everything you did to destroy her. I hope you watch every milestone she hits as she rockets into the stratosphere. And I hope you choke on it." eARC 93%

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Ginger Voight is prolific author, freelance writer and optioned screenwriter. Her fiction is diverse, with novels like the edgy, coming-of-age drama DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS, and the fun family adventure for kids of all ages, COMIC SQUAD. Having grown up reading different authors like Danielle Steel and Stephen King, Ginger has always been drawn more to story than to genre. This shows up in her various stories. Titles such as MY IMMORTAL and TASTE OF BLOOD are a delicious, heady mix of horror, suspense, and romance. Genre romance, however, has held a special place in her heart, ever since she read her first Harlequin novel when she was only eleven. As a result, Ginger is making a name for herself writing romances of her own, starring women who look more like the average American woman rather than those traditionally represented in the size-biased American media. Her Rubenesque romances were created especially for those heroines with fuller figures, who can still get the man of their dreams if only they believe they can. Such titles include UNDER TEXAS SKIES, LOVE PLUS ONE, GROUPIE and PICTURE POSTCARDS. Ginger was included in the best-selling book by Smith Magazine NOT QUITE WHAT I WAS PLANNING, featuring her six-word memoir.

  1. I love your reactions to this series. You sound completely enraged as you're reading, but then you write the review and you love it. I love a book that causes me to feel that strongly. Jace sounds fabulous.
