Needing an escape from her past, Avery chooses a college where no one knows her. Keeping a low profile was the plan, falling for the intense frat boy, Jase wasn’t. Yet she can’t deny how alive she feels when he’s near. Even as common sense implores her to stay away, her body begs her to get closer. Jase, numb from his own family drama, has grown bored with weekends fueled by nameless girls and countless bottles when he meets Avery. Helping her cope with her past is better than dealing with the bullshit his own life’s served up. Determined to drive away the painful secret she’s guarding, he appoints himself her life coach, and challenges her to new experiences. Getting close to her and being the one to make her smile are simply perks of the job. But when Avery’s past boldly saunters in, refusing to be forgotten, can Jase live with the truth about the girl he’s fallen for? Recommended for 17+ due to mature themes and sexual content.

Most of us have things in our young adult lives that we regret doing. I have my own short list of "what the hell was I thinking" moments. In the Impact of You, Avery is very much trying to run from her past. She picked a college far enough away from home that she felt sure no one who knew about her senior year nightmare would follow. Her friends and roommate just think she's shy and inexperienced with guys. But Avery really has trust issues after what her last boyfriend did.

Jase, also known as Adonis (Greek God of beauty and desire) by his hometown friends, has a reputation of being a player. And actually, he earned that reputation in his freshman and sophomore year of college. Following a near tragic family emergency, he straightened up. It changed his perspective and priorities. When he sees Avery at the party his frat house is having, he's drawn to her because she doesn't seem to be one of the usual tramps that attend the parties. He's even more interested when he finds that she's not going to swoon over his gorgeous looks (which she is but is just doing a superb job of acting unaffected by him). They discover they share a class, Human Sexuality. Jase offers to be her life coach. He can tell someone has caused her to have trust issues and hide from life. Of course he's the perfect guy to help her live a little, and it will give him extra time with Avery so he can figure her out.

"Just friends" is going to be really hard once Jase realizes just how hot Avery is and Avery finds herself jealous of his ex-girlfriend. Jase gives Avery little challenges to help her come out of her shell. He also encourages her to contact her birth-mom (she's adopted). She's becoming the girl she wants to be and Jase is falling for her along the way. And quicker than she expected, Avery is falling hard for Jase. Jase even takes Avery to meet his mother and hometown friends. Then there's always got to a be a bitch-skank-hoe that tries to mess everything up. In this case it's Stacia, Jase's ex-girlfriend.

When Avery's past threatens to blow-up her present she lets Jase erase her pain and fear with pleasure. I have to tell you, I enjoyed Jase giving Avery her first orgasm and not to mention her returning the favor the next night. And then Avery wakes up to the nightmare she was afraid would come. A girl from Avery's high school has shared her secret with Stacia. Avery doesn't hear from Jase for two days and she knows exactly what has happened. With the truth of her past, Jase feels betrayed and like he's been played. He basically turns his back on Avery. I was sick when Stacia waltzes in to help him forget his hurts feelings. I literally had to stop reading for fear of where the author was going to take the story. Once I had my emotions under control, thanks to a little author reassurance, I was able to continue.

Avery finds the strength to accept her past and start her future. Her birth mom is open to meeting her. Jase has to decide what he wants and if he can get over Avery's past as well. Of course I'm not going to tell you how it all works out. But I will reassure you that the author is a fan of HEA, so enjoy the journey to Avery and Jase's happy place. I loved Impact of You. Thanks to the author for providing and ARC for my review. I look forward to her next book Working It.

Excerpt:

I remain still and silent as he approaches. His hand cups my jaw, his thumb skittering back and forth against my skin. My eyes flick to his mouth, lingering on his lips, that I know from experience are incredibly soft and full. His mouth curves up a fraction and I know I’ve been caught. His thumb continues its gentle caress on my cheek and his eyes are bright with desire.
“You know this isn’t going to work. Should we just get it out of the way?” he asks finally.

“Get what out of the way?”
“Sex.”
“Excuse me?”
“You’ve got to feel this raw sexual energy radiating between us.”
I scoff. “I most certainly do not.” Lie. My damn panties are probably wet. Bastard.

He laughs, a deep throaty chuckle that lights up my nerve endings and makes my skin tingle. “Despite your tendency to lie through your teeth about being attracted to me, you’re still outrageously delicious.”
“Delicious?”
“Outrageously so.”

“So now I’m outrageously delicious? Isn’t that a cereal tagline?”
“No. That’s magically delicious. And stop changing the subject.”
“And what subject are we on?” I ask, suddenly breathless.
“The eventual sex we’re going to have. I’m going to open you up in more ways than one, babe.”

Holy shit. My knees buckle and I reach out to grasp onto Jase’s biceps. “Jase,” I rasp. If I had any upper body strength I’d punch myself in the ovaries for the idiotic way I’m behaving. But he possesses the distinct ability to turn me into a pile of hormones, and there’s no denying that fact.
His eyes have gone dark, all the humor has disappeared from his face. “Tell me what you want.”
