The Boys Of Summer (Summer #1) by C.J. Duggan {Book Blast}

The Boys of Summer (Summer #1)
 C.J. Duggan
Publication Date: 12/17/2012
 Contemporary/New Adult

It seemed only natural to nickname them the ‘Onslow Boys’. Every time they swaggered in the front door of the Onslow Hotel after a hard week’s work, their laughter was loud and genuine as they settled onto their bar stools. I peeked through the restaurant partition, a flimsy divider between my world and theirs. I couldn’t help but smile whenever I saw them, saw him ... Toby Morrison. Quiet seventeen-year-old Tess doesn’t relish the thought of a summertime job. She wants nothing more than to forget the past haunts of high school and have fun with her best friends before the dreaded Year Twelve begins.
To Tess, summer is when everything happens: riding bikes down to the lake, watching the fireworks at the Onslow Show and water bomb fights at the sweltering Sunday markets. How did she let her friends talk her into working? After first-shift disasters, rude, wealthy tourists and a taunting ex-boyfriend, Tess is convinced nothing good can come of working her summer away. However, Tess finds unlikely allies in a group of locals dubbed ‘The Onslow Boys’, who are old enough to drive cars, drink beer and not worry about curfews. Tess’s summer of working expands her world with a series of first times with new friends, forbidden love and heartbreaking chaos. All with the one boy she has never been able to forget. It will be a summer she will always remember. Warning: sexual references, and occasional coarse language.

EXCERPT:
I lowered my foot to balance my bike as I came to a stop. A
singular porch light shone like a beacon down the long curving
driveway, casting a shadow across Toby’s car.
Light on. Car in drive.
He was home. I supposed anyone would be at 2am on a
Monday morning. I was in two minds, I was ready to turn around and head for home; I paused, a murmur of music inside had my heart thumping in a matching rhythm. He was definitely home, he was awake and before nerves demanded I leave, I walked my bike down the drive, towards the light, towards the music.
I propped it near the wall of the cabin, moving through the
darkness of the carport, skimming myself sideways so as not to
scratch Toby’s car. I placed a hand against the bonnet. Cold, Toby must have been home all night. I realised how creepy that was so quickly pulled my hand away.
Stop being such a stalker, Tess!
Before I could put too much thought into where I was and what I was doing, I followed the ever-increasing thud of music that led me around the back. Then I had a thought. What if he wasn’t alone? I faltered for a second, then pushed forward. If I chickened out now I would never get any peace. I wanted – needed – to do this so before any more self-doubt forced itself into my mind, I turned the corner.

Endless Summer (Summer #2)
Expected Publication july 17th 2013

Sean looked out over the lake, squinting against the sunlight. He turned to me, his expression sobering as his eyes flicked over my face in a silent study. “Come on Amy, I saved you once, I’ll save you again.” I met his stare unflinchingly. “I don’t need saving.” A wicked grin formed slowly. “Don’t you?” After a rebellious summer night that almost claimed her life, Amy Henderson – the Onslow publican’s only daughter – is sent away to suffer a fate far worse than any other punishment: Boarding School. Three years on, a now nineteen-year-old Amy returns to Onslow for the summer. What once was a cauldron of activity with live bands, hot meals and cold beers, the Onslow Hotel now lies dark, deserted and depressing. All fond childhood memories of loitering on the hotel stairs and eavesdropping on customers’ colourful conversations are in the distant past. How had her dad let it come to this? With the new threat of putting the Onslow up for sale, Amy reluctantly turns to a local tradesman for help: Sean Murphy, the very same Onslow boy who saved her life all those years ago. With his help and that of some old friends, the task is clear: spend the summer building the hotel back up to its former glory or lose it for good. In an endless summer, Amy soon realises that sometimes in order to save your future, you have to face your past, even if it’s in the form of a smug, gorgeous Onslow boy.

Book Blast: Excerpt + GIVEAWAY An Unplanned Lesson by Beth Rinyu

Series: Stand Alone
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: March 8th 2013

Synopsis:
Nicole Morgan, the new second grade teacher at Pineview Elementary school, has it all together in the classroom; it’s her personal life that she can’t find peace with. Unable to let go of the guilt that she is harboring from her past, she punishes herself by running from all potential relationships.

Her patience is put to the test when Dailan O’Maley the obnoxious but very sexy uncle of one of her students enters her life. She slowly cracks away at Dailan’s crude, crass exterior when they are forced to work together for the sake of his nephew. The two of them learn a lesson in love that neither had planned as they discover that the guilt they are hiding deep inside isn’t the only thing they have in common. Unbeknownst to her, he holds more than just the key to her heart.

EXCERPT:
“Why are you staring at me?” I asked.

“Because I think you’re hot,” he said as he chewed on his straw and his smile became even
wider. Ryan started to giggle, never taking his eyes from his coloring.

I pursed my lips and shook my head. “What, are you twelve?” His only response was the
arrogant smirk that I had become so acquainted with over the past few months. “You know
what – why did I even agree to come out with you tonight? Oh wait—that’s right, I didn’t
agree, you just took it upon yourself to barge into my classroom and demand that I go,” I
said, not finding any humor in his immature behavior.

“Do you always take demands like that from a man, darlin’? If so, I think I need to get you in
the bedroom,” he said as he rubbed the scruff on his cheek.

I couldn’t take his obnoxious behavior anymore. I shook my head and shot him a dirty look
before giving him a swift kick in the knee.

“Ouch, that wasn’t very nice,” he said as he rubbed his knee under the table.

“Keep it up and I’ll aim just a little higher.”

“Then that would be your loss.”

“Oh, I’m sure it wouldn’t be,” I snapped.

Ryan seemed unfazed by it all as he continued to color. I realized now exactly where Ryan
got his colorful vocabulary - from the immature, arrogant male chauvinist sitting across
from me. Did I mention incredibly sexy as well?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Ever since I can remember, I have always enjoyed creative writing. There was always something about being able to travel to a different place or become a different person with just the stroke of a pen – or in today’s world a touch of the keyboard. My life is not as interesting as my books or the characters in them, but then again whose life is? I was born and have lived in New Jersey my whole life. I’m a mom of twin teenage boys, a teenage stepson, a crazy Border Collie and a cat with an identity crisis! I guess you can say writing is my form of Calgon! I am married to a wonderful guy – but we’ll keep that between us, I don’t want him getting a big head!
